An Egyptian civil engineer and a well-known hydrologist, Omar Zohny, has become a prominent figure in the niche field of hydrological studies, GIS, hydrodynamic flood modeling, and design of flood mitigation & stormwater drainage systems. Renowned for his high-quality designs marked by mixed efficient solutions and fast track timeframes, he is considered one of the pioneers in the field of hydrology and GIS modeling in the region.Born in Egypt and the oldest of 2 siblings, Husband and a father of two, Zohny aimed for excellence in his studies and nourished a deep-rooted interest in the hydrology field. Even as a young adult, he had no doubt that he would one day actualize a professional career in design. Intelligent and ambitious, he studied Civil Engineering with Irrigation and Hydraulics Major at Ain Shams University, graduating among the top of his class. He went on to start his own practice in 2011, advocating for quality reassurance and visionary designs and techniques in addition to his scientific ambition, which led him to gain the master’s degree of science with distinction from ASU, in the same field, his thesis encompassed the introduction and development of a new innovative modeling technique using GIS tools to enhance the hydrologic studies and rainfall/runoff calculations.With more than 10 years’ worth of experience in the design and research field, Zohny has reached the completion of more than 300 mega projects by 2020 either through collaboration with other specialists/firms or independently through his own firm, which gave him a leading experience that covers Africa and the Middle East, in addition, he has completed several effective publications in the field of hydrology and flood risk assessment sponsored by the top publishers and associations in the field (i.e. Springer, AWRA), in addition to the participation in one of the major scientific books in the last 10 years “Flash Floods in Egypt by Springer”, This book presents the latest findings and information on flash floods in Egypt and presents case studies from various regions throughout the country.Today his exceptional designs and innovative techniques gave him an edge among domestic and foreign authorities (e.g., Egyptian Corps of Engineers, General Authority for Roads & Railways, Saudi Ministry of Municipal & Rural Affairs, Riyadh Municipality, Aseer Municipality, Makkah Municipality, Saudi Ministry of Transport), Multinational leading firms (e.g., Dar Al Handasah, Khatib & Alami, ECG, AECOM, CDM smith, etc.), in addition to leading developers and contractors.
