My current research is to develop an Ultrafast Transmission Electron Microscope (UTEM) at the Illinois Materials Research Laboratory. The general use of this machine is to study light-induced ultrafast dynamics of material in nanometer spatial scale. I used this instrument to study the ultrafast dynamics of a photo-emitted electron gas in a uniform magnetic field, experimentally and theoretically. A photo-emitted electron gas is an example of a single component plasma that depicts long-lived coherent oscillations.

My work focused on design and construction of a high-current gas-phase ultrafast electron diffraction setup that was equipped with a radio-frequency cavity for electron pulse compression and an ultrafast laser setup that delivered intensity front-tilted laser pulses to the target under study for the sake of electron-laser velocity matching.

I worked on the theory of multilayer dielectric structures and their applications in microwave and optical engineering. I also investigated on the theory of electromagnetic fields inside bi-anisotropic materials as well as one dimensional periodic structures.
