Responsible for delivering system design software tools used in a broad range of applications, including embedded control and monitoring, automated measurements, high speed test, and RF communications algorithm design. Directly manage a team of 10 senior managers and architects, with an additional 250 indirect reports across multiple global sites including three offices in North America (Austin, Berkeley and Toronto), as well as offices in Romania, India and China.

Led the strategic direction and development of National Instruments embedded software design tools.Managed the activities of multiple teams in Austin, Romania, and China focused on real-time and FPGA development.Defined a multi-year plan to transition National Instruments’ hardware, driver software, and design tools to Linux, allowing the company to realize a dramatic reduction in maintenance costs and realize faster product innovation.Successfully transitioned National Instruments FPGA design tools to utilize the Xilinx Vivado Design Suite, realizing a 4x reduction in FPGA compile times for our customers with no changes to their existing designs.

Started as the first employee, after the two co-founders, and first server-side architect/developer. Was responsible for creating most of the company’s server-side code while also helping recruit and train the core development team. Was additionally involved in varying degrees with all aspects of the @hand Mobile Application Environment 1.0 product.Reported directly to the CTO as the primary interface between the executive team and engineering.Acted as server architect, engineering manager, and developer on the engineering team.Helped architect and develop the 1.0 version of the @hand Mobile Application Environment, enabling the company to secure of $18M in funding.Developed the architecture of the @hand server to support redundancy and scalability to enable connectivity with thousands of mobile clients.Provided architectural guidance and advanced support to customers building mobile applications using the @hand platform.

Member of the development team responsible for the design and development of LabVIEW, a graphical data-flow programming environment and National Instruments flagship software offering. Main architect and developer for object-oriented extensions to the G language, the graphical data-flow language used in the LabVIEW environment.Main architect and developer for the extensions to the G language allowing for the development of distributed, multi-threaded applications.Lead developer and maintainer of the Linux, Solaris, SunOS and HP-UX versions of LabVIEW.

Member of the software engineering team responsible for developing SunOS/X Window system based visualization software for the analysis of satellite data gathered during the initial phase of NASA’s Earth Science Enterprise.Worked directly with research scientists to understand their requirements and translate their needs into the visualization software. The software was used by members of the project team within both SwRI and NASA.
