Assistant Chief Counsel
Current• Represent the U.S. Government in removal proceedings before Immigration Judges.• Provide expert legal counsel in the interpretation of highly complex immigration and custom laws including comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of statutory, regulatory and case authorities.• Prepare cases for trial by conducting legal research.• Prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents.• Conduct cross-examinations and submit evidence in proceedings on behalf of the U.S. Government.• Present oral arguments advancing the government’s position and define legal issues for the court in proceedings.• Negotiate the disposition of cases with opposing counsel.• Advise the Deputy Chief Counsel on cases warranting deferred action or other prosecutorial discretion.• Provide legal advice and support to the other ICE components in immigration matters.• Appellate advocacy before the Board of Immigration Appeals, including the preparation of briefs and other pleadings.• Ensure all mandatory procedural requirements have been complied with for all filings before the Executive Officer for Immigration Review and Board of Immigration Appeals.• Represent the U.S. Government in adjudicating cases before the Office of the Chief Administrative Hearing Officer (OCAHO) under the provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act relating to the hiring of unauthorized noncitizens and the failure to comply with employment eligibility verification requirements.
