To accomplish this, we needed a strong manufacturing engineering team. We already had a highly skilled industrial engineer, but we did not have a highly skilled controls engineer to help implement the core infrastructure for Industrial 4.0, thus we brought in Omkar for this key position. From day one Omkar took control of various elements of our Industrial 4.0 strategy. He was responsible for implementing the link between our ERP system (i.e., IQMS) and our injection molding machines along with our assembly cells. He wrote all the code to tie in the machine PLCs to the ERP system. He also was able to develop our own manufacturing enterprise system (MES) that would give us real time data analytics from each piece of equipment. He developed a system design and implemented our network servers and used SCADA to interface all our manufacturing systems together. Omkar developed and coded our shop floor Andon system, built to his customers' requirements (i.e., shop floor employees, supervisors, and operations manager). This gave the team a real time look at how each machine and assembly station were running so the team could react quickly to resolve any issues. Omkar also worked closely with various machine suppliers and integrators to see what systems were the best fit for Blue Star Plastics. He designed an automated assembly process that included various linear slides along with bowl feeders and robots to double the capacity of the assembly process to prepare the team for extra work coming in 2023. This project was critical form the capacity side, but Omkar’s design was also able to save over a $1M of operating cost from the current process over the next four years. Omkar is highly skilled in controls, machine integration, supplier selection, working with manufacturing teams, developing system specifications from customer requirements, and troubleshooting machine communication issues. He was a critical member of our manufacturing engineering team, and we would have struggled with implementing Industrial 4.0 without his key skill set. He works well with all team members and stays focused on task through completion.
