As an investor and financier, I have been involved in over $500M of equity investment in early stage and mature companies, led $billions of senior debt financings, dealt with the less glamorous side of restructurings and every step of the way I have been privileged to work alongside extraordinary people. Today the energy sector is seeing its most profound change since the advent of the age of oil, with innovation in technologies, business models and companies competing for survival or domination. In this context, ensuring access to sustainable finance whilst taking into account climate change and the imperative of a just transition is a fascinating challenge. But energy is not just about fuel or heat, it also helps feeds half of the world's population with ammonia based fertilizers. little known fact that >95% of the 180 million tons per year of ammonia comes from hydrocarbons and fertilizers emissions footprint is equivalent to the carbon emitted by shipping and aviation combined. Greening fertilizers through green hydrogen is not just a challenge but a huge opportunity to tackle a market that exists today.
