Website: www.interloperfilms.com/byodSince 2011, BRING YOUR OWN DOC has covered over 300 films, featuring most of the greatest documentary filmmakers in the world. We've done retrospectives with DA Pennebaker, Joe Berlinger, Eugence Jarecki, Les Blank's last interview, Jehane Noujaim and the Square right off winning Sundance & the Undefeated team right off the Oscars, etc. The series has become the cornerstone of the documentary world--- the only place where a filmmaker gets their best interview, by a colleague, and where the audience can watch the greatest documentary filmmakers discuss their films from subject matter to style, as they are being released. There isn't a filmmaker or company making docs at Sundance or SXSW, who is nominated for an Oscar, or premiering on any network from HBO to Netflix- who don't go out of their way to sit down for this show because the reputation is so strong. We host an annual Oscar Roundtable for three years running.

  • Jungletown - Documentary Series & Feature Film
    Executive Producer/ Director/Director Of Photography/Editor
    Jungletown - Documentary Series & Feature Film Sep 2016 - Jul 2017
In association with VICELAND Website: https://www.interloperfilms.com/portfolio-item/jungletown/In 2008, entrepreneur Jimmy Stice bought 600 acres of tropical rain forest and set out to build a traditional city in paradise, when the market crashed thanks to traditional real estate. Realizing the old model of “if we build it they will come” was broken, he flipped it to "if they come, they will build it" and founded Kalu Yala, which means “Sacred Land,” which has since attracted hundreds of young people who - facing climate disaster, have decided to dedicate their lives to sustainability efforts over pursuing more traditional consumer-oriented routes. JUNGLETOWN is an intimate look at mostly Millenials as they leave the comfort of their lives in civilization to come the jungle to figure out new ways to live, at a time we all must. JUNGLETOWN follows incredibly intriguing characters and the work they are doing to set up sustainable farming systems, recycle 100% of their waste, build a stable water system, and document the wildlife to help preserve it. It’s also a look at what real community might look like at a time when we’ve lost a sense of what that means. The film proves that we can actively learn to live sustainably & offset climate change. Kalu Yala is also rife with conflict, as the land is privately owned real estate venture, so some of the people coming and paying to build it, feels they are being exploited because it's hard living. What they’re paying to be a part of is something very primitive… which is what living 100% sustainably looks like. KY is only accessible down muddy, unpaved “Suicide Hill” which snakes through thick jungle and across a river which becomes impassable when it rains- so there's a magnification of personal issues, both me both mental and physical. Some run, some dedicate their lives to it.

  • Cool It
    Director
    Cool It Jun 2009 - Sep 2009
2010 – Golden Starfish Award Documentary Feature – Hamptons International Film FestivalCOOL IT is a feature-length documentary produced in an attempt to blast through the polarizing logjam of the climate change debate to bring a solid plan for solutions. Widely known as "the skeptical environmentalist," Danish scientist and economist Bjorn Lomborg has been vilified, and perhaps misunderstood for his views on climate change. The controversy surrounding him is outlined in the first few minutes of the film, so that the audience can lean in and join the debate that follows, coming to their own conclusions as opposed to being spoon-fed what they are supposed to believe. The film follows Lomborg as he travels the planet visiting scientists in their labs to uncover pragmatic solutions to counteract the warming of the planet, which his consortium of Nobel-laureates, The Copenhagen Consensus, have identified as deserving of R&D funds. The film also exposes how wave energy was invented decades before it was adopted due to a conspiracy by the nuclear energy council, illustrating how vital progress can be thwarted for private financial gain.

    We Live In Public 1999 - 2009
2009 - Grand Jury Prize - Sundance Film Festival 2009 - MoMA NY - Permanent Collection Watch Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XSTwfdFwIYWebsite: https://www.interloperfilms.com/portfolio-item/we-live-in-public/10 years in the making and culled from 5,000 hours of footage, WE LIVE IN PUBLIC reveal the effects the web will have on our society through a series of startling social experiments funded by “the greatest Internet pioneer you’ve never heard of” the former Internet mogul, artist, and visionary, Josh Harris. Called the “Warhol of the Web”, Harris founded Pseudo.com, the first Internet television network during the dot-com boom of the 1990s. He also curated and funded the ground-breaking project “Quiet”, putting roughly 150 people in an underground bunker in NYC at the turn of the Millenium, where they lived together on camera for 30 days, broadcasting every moment of their lives on a close circuit network. Before reality television and the existence of online social networks, the bunker demonstrated how willing we are to trade our privacy for the elusive and often unrealized promise of recognition and connection offered by technological advances. Harris’ next experiment, a 6 month stint of broadcasting every moment of his life with his girlfriend from 32 motion-controlled surveillance cameras and 66 microphones when broadband was introduced in 2000, led to his mental collapse and demonstrated the heavy price we can pay for living in public. Now, with our addiction as a society to these "virtual boxes" we've downloaded our brains to and the hits of Dopamine we receive from "likes" and "friends" in our social networks, the film's prophecies have come true, and the relevance of it's message is even more important. WE LIVE IN PUBLIC won 2009 Sundance Grand Jury Prize for this riveting and cautionary tale of what to expect as the virtual world takes control of our lives.

The film documents them as they enter Wellspring, the only accredited, live-in cult treatment facility in the world, where they learn the true extent of the brainwashing they have all experienced. Eventually they return home to bring the Pastor and his wife to justice, and to try to begin to rebuild their damaged lives.JOIN US presents an intimate look at the inner workings of a cult from both the members and the cult leaders points of view. It is an emotional human portrait that explores the reasons why America is the number one breeding ground for cults in the world, and a chilling reminder that it can happen to anyone.

Timoner's feature-length documentary shot over seven years about musicians Anton Newcombe, leader of the Brian Jonestown Massacre, and Courtney Taylor, head of the Dandy Warhols, star crossed friends and bitter rivals. From the moment they met, The Dandy Warhols and the Brian Jonestown Massacre quickly bonded over a desire to not conform to the tastes of the recording industry. Yet, the bands’ choices over how to express their creativity and originality in a profit-driven industry eventually put them at irreconcilable odds.Culled from 1500 hours of footage and narrated by Courtney Taylor, DIG! follows the underground giant Anton Newcombe, unearthing him to be an important yet largely unnoticed artist of our time. In 1996 Anton Newcombe and his band the Brian Jonestown Massacre - who in a decade independently released 11 albums, 3 recorded in one year – are hell-bent on staging a revolution in the music industry. They are convinced their friends, the Dandy Warhols, will join them to create a united front. But Anton’s creative psychosis takes him to the most remote areas of the human mind to find his original art, and as a result, he destroys every opportunity for financial success. DIG! is about both musicians’ love and obsession, gigs and recordings, arrests and death threats, uppers and downers - their choices between art and industry, which unfold with the passage of time.
