I love Accounting! said no one ever.... I am often told that I am unlike many people found in the finance field. I am feisty, driven, head strong and a whirlwind of ideas coming faster than my fingers can put into type form. My passion is to help businesses play by the rules but keep as much of their hard earned cash as possible. Along my career path I have learned no one is going to tell you about the things you don't know you are missing out on. The tax credits, the loop holes, the tricks of the trade. The secrets you hope to stumble across that you don't even know you need to ask about are all around us. It burns me inside to waste time. To be inefficient. To repeat tasks unnecessarily.At the start of my career I found myself trekking daily to downtown Toronto; breaking into the world of Accounting is not an easy task. No one wants to let a newbie play with their money! Commuting was a grueling and exhausting lifestyle which I learned quickly was not for me. On the bright side, I had 2 1/2 hours at least each day to plan and strategize for something better. I started working locally, and efficiently eliminated myself from the full time job I had. I then offered to work on a contract basis where I had control of my time, and my life. There was no looking back, an Entrepreneur was born. How could I build on this, how could I set my own hours, work location, gain even more control and grow my client base? Almost 20 years ago - back when online banking was a risk and would never take off? I registered a website called www.OnlineAccounting.ca. Cloud based accounting was a hard sell. No business owner was interested in anything online. How could that work, is it safe, how do I get paperwork to you? Hosting desktop software applications from a server in my basement I see now I was quite ahead of my time. Post pandemic, online is the new norm. I am an expert in everything QuickBooks. I have worked within this application with most every industry over the span of my career. I was fortunate to have worked with Intuit Canada on the Advisory panel during the launch of QuickBooks Online. I can tell you that I was steadfastly against this app until it was re-released after 2013, but when the kinks were finally worked out it became the backbone of my daily operations. Not to say there are not growing pains, and as with any technology this will always be the case. Staying one step ahead is a daunting task, but it seems to be the natural speed requirement for the Accounting profession and a challenge that keeps me young at heart.
