I believe my perspective is quite unique in that I have worked on both the legal and the technical/solution areas of privacy. I have prepared privacy law and delivered probably the largest consent management platform solution globally. A colleague and I also devised the first categorisation algorithm and matrix for cookies classification. The market has come of age; we have lost most of the GDPR so called ‘experts’, clarification has been provided by regulators and enforcement has now commenced. I'd like to think that a new dawn is upon us in which visitor experience is key to earning consent and building trust becomes a source of competitive advantage. Software vendors must also be held to account and should provide solutions that meet the needs of both compliance and marketing. This should not be an onerous task; solutions can and should be deployed quickly (000's sites per week) and efficiently. IT concerns should be dispelled and there should be no project teams required– think automation not consultancy! Guess what, I feel this is a great starting point for a new generation of service.
