About Ike Ononye, Ms. Cosm Sc, Ph.D. Chemistry, Fellow Rsc
I am passionate about Research and Development, Entrepreneurship, Open Innovation, Africa Business Development, Consumer Understanding, Natural Products, Beauty Care Technology Development, Health Care, and Talent Development.I spent 4+ years (2010-2015) in Sub Saharan Africa (SSA) pioneering R&D efforts to support development of Beauty Care product initiatives that delight the local consumer. I partnered with marketing to develop and execute effective go-to-market strategies - launched two products.I initiated research collaboration with local universities and mentored some student interns for 2 years in a row on R&D projects, one of which led to a consumer product, formulated with locally-sourced raw materials. While in SSA, I joined hands with the Royal Society of Chemistry to organize the Pan African Chemistry Network Conference (PACN) in Nigeria. This brought together government agencies, industry leaders, and academia to develop action plans for addressing issues relating to Hygiene, Sustainability, and Regulatory Harmonization. Prior to Africa assignment, I spent 17 years in Product Development in Pharmaceuticals and Health Care in the US, leading analytical development of cardiac and anti-infective drugs, medical devices, and medications under GMP environment. I developed the use of Electron Paramagnetic Resonance and Electrochemistry for fast development of robust formulations and rapid stability studies. I also developed unique separation techniques which enabled trace level analysis of impurities and absolute assays of new drug substances. These efforts resulted in the launch of ThernaCare heat wrap, PuR water filters, Respiratory, and Digestive products. My educational and work experiences (in Nigeria, Canada, UK, and the US) have exposed me to diverse teams and technologies. This enables me to adapt to new environments very quickly and work well and productively in a cross-cultural and/or multi-disciplinary setting.
