During my Ph.D., my research primarily focused on Advanced High-Strength Steels (AHSSs), specifically emphasizing Transformation-Induced Plasticity (TRIP) steels. I reviewed the literature and designed multiple low-carbon, low-manganese alloy candidates. Retained austenite, a crucial micro-constituent of TRIP-type steels, was a key consideration in my designs. Utilizing CALPHAD software, I narrowed down the selection to the five most promising candidates, optimizing for the desired retained austenite volume fraction. Through the casting and hot rolling processes, I produced a series of diverse steel sheets. Subsequently, I conducted investigations into the intercritical annealing temperatures and the isothermal bainitic transformation temperatures and durations for each candidate. After evaluating the retained austenite volume fractions, I selected one of the four remaining options as the preferred candidate. Finally, I examined the mechanical and microstructural properties of the selected steel. This involved employing various analytical techniques such as metallography, tensile and hardness tests, dilatometer, Gleeble, SEM, XRD, and EBSD analyses.During my MSc. study, my research focused on the production of metal matrix composites. I specialized in utilizing the cost-effective and straightforward infiltration method. Within the realm of composite production, the careful selection of reinforcement and matrix materials, along with their respective volume fractions, plays a vital role. Consequently, I chose two distinct powder-form reinforcements to produce hybrid composites. Additionally, I employed a 2XXX series aluminum alloy known for its solution- and aging-heat treatability. After applying T6 heat treatment to the hybrid composites, I comprehensively assessed their mechanical properties, including dry sliding and hardness tests.During my BSc. study, I engaged in a diverse range of courses in Metallurgy and Materials Science. Although I found all the courses valuable, some particularly resonated with me, such as materials production and heat treatment. As a senior, I took the initiative to design a dry sliding machine from scratch, adhering to ASTM G65 standard, during the autumn semester. In the spring semester, I successfully produced a plastic matrix composite using the hot compression molding method. For this composite, I selected a CNSL-modified phenolic resin as the matrix material and incorporated chopped glass fibers as reinforcement. To evaluate the mechanical properties of the plastic composites, I conducted tensile testing.
