About Opedeji Sodiya
I am resourceful and passionate about mental health with special interests in children and youth, and has developed a mature and responsible approach to any task undertaken, with a proven ability to work with teams. With a few years of experience gained across varying professional fields, I have amassed a wealth of experience and knowledge in the area of child development and mental health which has instilled an unwavering drive to help children and youth acquire the skills needed to manage their mental health and live a more normal life.My ambition to make my career in this field has been developed out of my own experience of working in the caring profession and helping to solve the problems of children suffering from a variety of mental disabilities. I worked closely with different children who had varying mental health conditions such as Schizophrenia, Autism spectrum disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Depression etc., as well as caring for troubled children such as children with Cerebral Palsy, sexually and physically abused children, deaf and dumb children, and their families. This experience has given me a real and practical understanding of the challenges of mental health worker’s role, but also a great sense of human satisfaction to be found in caring for such children and being able to help them live a more normal life, to achieve some equilibrium in their day-to-day existence and to maintain their dignity as humans. By devoting myself to this chosen career, I hope to bring a fresh perspective to health and social approaches to child and adolescent mental health, I aim to continue assisting other people with mental health conditions through consistent and intentional practise as regards child and adolescent mental health, which would provide me with a wider learning experience and real expertise in this field, and I will be able to apply what I learn not only in my career but also when raising my children in the future.
