Ophelia has a degree in Farm Management and Technology from McGill University. She has worked and managed farm workers in greenhouses and on conventional farms. Beyond the actual farming, she marketed the organic produce and closed deals with local restaurants, bakeries, and organic health food stores. Since 2018, she has focused on gaining indoor farming experience by conducting growing trials using vertical hydroponic methods. She tested and formalized the ideas underlying GUSH over the last few years. The business plan she wrote (comprehensive assessment for the Farm Management and Technology program) won the National Bank Innovation Award in 2019 and GUSH came second place in McGill’s Dobson Cup in 2020. Today, her focus is managing day-to-day farm operations while expanding her strawberry farms throughout Montreal.
