VA SYD is one of Sweden’s largest organizations working with water and sanitation 24 hours hour a day, every day of the year, serving more than 500 000 customers. VA SYD is a politically governed municipal association in southern Sweden, that works in close collaboration with the member municipalities Burlöv, Eslöv, Lomma, Lund and Malmö. As Chief Communications Officer, I am leading the Communications and Customer services teams with roughly 30 highly dedicated employees. I am also a member of the top management team at VA SYD.With over 400 employees, VA SYD is driving the industry forwards on a daily basis. Although the head office is located in Malmö, there are 15 wastewater treatment plants, several hundred pumping stations and a full-scale waterworks of our own, as well as a number of smaller, local water-works spread across our member municipalities. We also have three accredited laboratories for the analysis of drinking water, wastewater, and environmental contaminants in water and sludge. We collect household waste and food waste in Burlöv and Malmö. VA SYD’s operations generate an annual turnover in excess of SEK 1 billion.
