The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) runs programs that empower journalists to use technology, data, and media to tell stories that inform and engage people. - Developed successful proposals for global journalism development programs, resulting in over $2 million in program funding- Managed a 15-month program in Moldova: creating and supporting a network of journalists working to counter disinformation and develop collaboration and investigative skills- Organized and moderated panel discussions at international conferences- Prototyped systems for collecting and analyzing program impact data- Managed the redesign of the ICFJ website

Mobile Monday DC (DC MoMo) is an open forum for mobile professionals and enthusiasts in the Washington, DC area. DC MoMo fosters networking and information sharing through face-to-face gatherings, the MoMo web site and social networking.As a member of the board, I organize events, identifying topics to discuss, and finding speakers, sponsors, and venues to make those events happen. I also prepared a sponsor deck that we will use to attract new sponsors to our organization.I moderated a panel on mobile games at Apps World North America in November (http://www.apps-world.net/northamerica/), and "co-instigated" the WIP Jam (http://www.wipconnector.com/wipjam/entry/wipjam_appsworld_na) at that event.

Product serves over 900k registered users and attracts 2M+ page views per month.● Led the effort to rebuild the PBS LearningMedia platform, replacing an earlier version. Project included a new custom CMS, digital media management platform, and responsive web site. Launched the rebuilt service on time in January 2013 after a ten month development process. The new site attracts nearly 5 times the traffic of the old site● Led the development of a suite of tools that enable teachers to create and assign interactive lessons and activities using educational media. Project is funded by a multi-million dollar, three-year grant from the Anne Ray Charitable Trust

WordStream attempted to create an efficient solution for on-demand automatic translation of text, from any language to any other language(s). The concept was based on two key ideas:1. Controlled language: translating natural language is hard, but translating a defined subset of a language is manageable. The trick is to define the subset and create tools to gather input according to the rules.2. Interlingua: The WordStream system translated any input into an interlingua, a language-neutral data structure. This can then be converted into any output language.● Built software development team in start-up creating solutions for accurate automated text translation● Led design and implementation of software for core translation engine and web-based user interface for editing language databases● Demonstrated software during 2000 Summer Olympics by automatically translating English news alerts into five languages simultaneously

Designed and programmed scripting langauge for creating virtual environments. Created prototype virtual environment playspace for children: building, painting, and navigation in a 3D world. Created and shipped 3D virtual environment trainer for SpaceOrb 360 controller.

Developed interactive 3D archaeological environments, including first-person navigation and location-based multimedia content. Designed and programmed interactive museum exhibits for The Computer Museum, Boston, MA. Created augmented reality demonstration for VR World exhibition in Boston, MA, Nov. 1995. Called "one of the most impressive VR application demos shown" by CyberEdge Journal.
