• Managed the Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Initiative, deploying $5 million of internal investment to seed new research in enzyme-based materials, hydrogen storage, analyte preconcentration and molecular electronic materials, all of which resulted in strong externally-funded programs.• Developed externally funded proposals resulting in > $6 million of funding in organic electronic materials for flat panel displays and next generation solid state lighting.• Consulted on the spinout of Vitex Systems Inc. from Battelle Memorial Institute, a privately held company commercializing hybrid organic-inorganic thin film encapsulation.• Worked with the Department of Energy and the Next Generation Lighting Industry Alliance to define and build a national program in solid state lighting using both organic and inorganic materials.• Proposed and managed a successful international research collaboration for the newly-formed Battelle-Japan

• Developed techniques such as organic molecular beam deposition and organic vapor phase deposition enabling new science and applications using molecular materials.• Developed a portfolio of intellectual property around stacked, flexible and phosphorescent organic light emitting devices (OLEDs) which led to the successful spin-out of Universal Display Corporation (Nasdaq: PANL) and served on the Scientific Advisory Board until leaving Princeton in 2000.
