Design, develop and conduct original and creative, independent and collaborative studies on foodborne zoonotic pathogen Campylobacter jejuni regarding its epidemiology and pathogenesis in animals and humans using traditional bacteriology and contemporary molecular biology and "omics" approaches. Analyze data, prepare reports for presentations and peer-review publications. Prepare grant proposals seeking funding from internal and extramural sources. Supervise and mentor undergraduate/graduate students, postdoctoral associates and technical staff.

•Developed an agar medium for isolation and identification of Rhodococcus equi, an important pathogen of foals, and investigated its distribution in horse farms•Assisted in developing an ELISA test for detecting anti-Campylobacter antibodies.•Investigated on prevalence, antimicrobial resistance, and epidemiology of Campylobacter in poultry and chicken eggs.•Developed and performed in vivo chicken experiments to examine the role of maternal antibodies in protection against Campylobacter. •Supervised and helped undergraduate students in their summer research projects.•Collaborated in research projects involving many different aspects of Campylobacter biology using such techniques as PCR, DNA sequencing, PFGE, recombinant protein production, antimicrobial susceptibility tests, SDS-PAGE, and Western blot.
