My research focused on applying cell biological, molecular and physiological approaches to the study of the neurodegenerative disease Friedreich Ataxia. I showed that relocation of iron by siderophores can restore multiple cellular functions compromised by frataxin deficiency. This work was published in Blood and a review I wrote on the subject has been recently accepted to Neurology.

I studied clathrin coated vesicles (CCV's) which bud from maturing secretory granules in neuroendocrine cells. This research consisted of developing assays for in vitro reconstitution of CCV budding from maturing secretory granules and in vivo tracking of granule-derived CCV's using fluorescent tags of granule and CCV markers.
