Linux Engineer IiRackspace, The #1 Managed Cloud Company Oct 2010 - Feb 2012San Antonio, Texas, Us- Moved to Email and Applications organization and immediately took on the webmail search platform as an engineer.* Webmail search was based on various open source technologies (solr, zookeeper, and others)* I worked with developers on improving this platform, as well as a hardware and cluster redesign. The search results are now returned in the 10-100ms range, depending on user index size, down from 10s+- Took on the responsibility for existing network infrastructure* Email and Applications maintains their own edge infrastructure. It is a mix of LVS/keepalived, iptables, ipsec, and other technologies on the Linux edges.* Email and Applications also has multiple F5 Viprions in some environments* The group did both internal and external load balancing, as well as firewalling.I managed/improved the existing infrastructure, as well as worked with internal networking groups on network design- Took on responsibility for our DNS caching layer* The organization ran their own DNS caching layer due to the number of DNS lookups performed as well as the need for split-horizon. There were DNS caching clusters in multiple environments. Zone files on local machines were generated by a tool which pulls from a centralized host repository the group operates. I was responsible for maintenance of this cluster.* The group also locally mirror/host rbldns zones, which bind hands off to a rbldnsd worker on each cache. My most recent work with these clusters was to automate deployment. I used Ansible to accomplish this. The group can now stand up new cache servers utilizing FreeIPA for authentication, NFS for shared home directories, and full bind/rbldnsd configuration as well as first-run setup within 5-10 minutes on a fresh installation. -
