Orma Smith serves as an advisor to the Margaret Finley Shackelford Charitable Trust whose primary purpose is to foster and preserve wildlife and its habitat, particularly including hardwoods, as well as other related charitable and educational purposes deemed appropriate.The two primary beneficiaries have been Strawberry Plains Audubon Center in Holly Springs, MS and The University of Tennessee Department of Agriculture at Ames Plantation.Strawberry Plains Audubon Center is one of Mississippi's finest natural and historic treasures. With a love of nature and profound foresight, Ruth Finley and Margaret Finley Shackelford entrusted their home and property to The National Audubon Society. Ruth and Margaret's vision of protecting wildlife and habitat from an encroaching and ever-growing urban area has become our mission.To ensure that our hardwood forests remain a reality, not just a memory, the University of Tennessee’s Department of Forestry, Wildlife, and Fisheries has been working in cooperation with Ames Plantation in West Tennessee and Strawberry Plains Plantation in Mississippi, through a partnership due in part to a generous gift from the Margaret Shackelford Charitable Trust.
