In the business of bioinformatics and pathogens, complex problems are all there is. Love it!Experiences and lessons learnedIn 2005 I co-founded Isentio (later turned into Pathogenomix), a company developing highly advanced and unique DNA sequence analysis software and methods for improving detection of bacteria in clinical samples. Starting with pathogen detection using Sanger samples to today's NGS big data challenges, Pathogenomix has customers in 16 countries, including high profile labs and hospitals like Mayo Clinics, Harvard, Stanford and ARUP Labs in the U.S. My goal is to make NGS as easy as Sanger, and I think we are there. Our 5 minute pathogen ID NGS pipeline is second to none in clinical accuracy AND orders of magnitude faster - all without using any local bioinformatics resources.Through my work as CTO of Isentio and Pathogenomix, and developing the firm’s proprietary algorithms, I have gained extensive experience on algorithm design and development, large user base cloud solutions as well as everything from bioinformatics parallel processing to pixel perfect design of the user interface. This has taught me how to work with the whole value chain of a company to achieve the best possible technical solutions – both for the business and its customers.Being a technologist and a hands-on developer and architect, I live and breathe technology. This gives me a special overview of past, current and possible future tech that puts me in a position to know what path to take - most of all being able to make a difference using technology.
