About Osbaldo Hernandez

Osbaldo is a bilingual professional who is passionate about public service, policy and advocacy. His personal story as a former undocumented immigrant (DREAMer) and first-gen college graduate has given him a first-hand experience into the lives of many of our communities’ vulnerable and oppressed populations that has grounded his work in the areas of education, advocacy and community engagement throughout his volunteer and professional roles. After graduating from Seattle University, Osbaldo moved to the Rio Grande Valley in Texas to teach high school. His work as a teacher & curriculum writer exposed him to the real challenges that our students and teachers face in our public education system. This fueled his charge to be part of the movement that is working to close the achievement gap by promoting equitable education policies and increasing access to critical human services in the community. After successfully completing his two years of teaching through Teach For America, Osbaldo moved back to Seattle to work as a staffer for U.S. Senator Patty Murray. His work in her office involved working with constituent services and outreach in the areas of immigration, state and local issues. There, he gained important skills he brings to every workplace like effective community engagement strategies, outreach and office operations. After leaving Senator Murray's office, Osbaldo dedicated himself to working with local school districts in different roles doing family and student re-engagement, graduation & college readiness. Through both of his roles at the Shoreline and Bellevue School District, Osbaldo was successful at energizing parent engagement to new levels and providing advocacy to homeless students and families, and at-risk students.Today Osbaldo works as a community engagement coordinator with the City of Seattle's Department of Neighborhoods where he serves as a liaison to the community connecting them to city resources and programs through education and relationship-building. As an immigrant and person of color, Osbaldo understands the value of building trust with community through relationship building. Furthermore, he understands the importance of developing strong relationships with stakeholders representing historically underserved and oppressed populations like BIPOC and queer communities. Osbaldo brings an array of effective community engagement strategies with a proven record of measurable results to help connect communities both in person and in virtual spaces.
