We’re living at a most extraordinary time. We see the damage our society is causing to the living world. We see suffering and injustice in every country. But despite what you might think, most people are aware of the problems, anxious about what’s happening, and want to do the right thing.And more of us than ever before are taking meaningful action to help tackle the climate, nature and social crises – in business, in communities, in civil society, in government and more. Hopefully, this groundswell of awareness and action is taking us towards the positive social tipping points we need to avert the negative ecological tipping points and to create a liveable future for everyone.I’ve been helping people take effective leadership on sustainability for more than twenty years. It’s what I do. I can’t imagine doing anything else. I used to believe that once people understood the environmental we were causing, and that threatened society, they would act – whether as consumers, voters or leaders.I soon had ample evidence that it's not so simple. While knowledge is important our mindsets and emotional engagement are critical.Since then, my focus has been on learning from the social sciences about how and why people, organisations and societies change – and translating what I've learned into practical advice and support for sustainability leaders to help them make greater progress.
