Conscious Cultura is a mental wellness program focused on serving Latino communities with culturally centered healing tools to develop emotional well-being, and create thriving outcomes for Latino communities.Oscar developed Conscious Cultura while working in underserved schools, jails and juvenile detention centers in California. He developed a mental health initiative with a team of experts from the fields of neuroscience, psychology, and mindfulness and brought his program to Latino youth, educators communities.In 2021 Conscious Cultura was awarded the Health Equity Innovation Challenge grant from the Johnson & Johnson Foundation. Conscious Cultura utilized the J&J funding to support Downtown Value School in the Los Angeles Unified School district with culturally centered social emotional and mindfulness programming.

Mindfulness teacher to youth in under-served communities throughout Richmond, CA and the larger Bay Area. Empowered youth with mindfulness, social and emotional learning skills, and transformative practices that build resilience, self-awareness, attention management, impulse control, and increased self confidence.Designed a curriculum for a group of youth mindfulness leaders at Helms Middle School in Richmond, CA which led to a schoolwide adoption of the model. This customized curriculum integrated a culturally responsive and trauma informed approach to the existing social emotional learning models. Built relationships and collaborated with school leadership, educators, and counselors on more effective strategies to help reduce stress, and increase performance for educators and youth across the school community.

Selected as a Dalai Lama Fellow, a global organization that supports emerging leaders working at the intersection of mindfulness and social innovation. Co-founded Mindful Garden Collective, a community wellness garden and environmental restoration project that provided underserved Oakland communities with free access to local organic food along with workshops on community health and healing. Co-created idea and branding for project, developed strategy, design and implementation of weekly workshops with local wellness practitioners and educators in the agro-ecology space. Supported the development of local ecological infrastructure, and community relationships with Oakland families, and regional nonprofits. Received media coverage and spread awareness with institutions like Yale University, which held their yearly volunteer day at Mindful Garden Collective. Created and sustained relationships with community stakeholders across complex differences, including mediating dialogues with engaged citizens and academic leaders at a critical moment where the garden was in jeopardy of being shut down due to construction development at Laney Community College. Hosted and managed events which eventually grew to include over 10,000 participants from inception to the 1-year mark.
