Under the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund (PBF), this role involves community management tasks for United Nations Volunteers in Sri Lanka in their ‘Youth Participation and Engagement for a Healthier, Equitable, Safer and United Sri Lanka,’ project, which will leverage volunteer networks to improve access to opportunities for young aspiring leaders to meaningfully engage in promoting social cohesion and development through peace development.- Support the implementation of ‘Youth Peace Initiative’, promoting a peaceful and healthier national youth community- Design and initiate a national youth mobilization framework for community engagement and positioning ‘Decade of Action’ agenda in volunteering- Build strategic partnerships among local, international, government and non-government youth and Volunteer Involving Organizations to promote peace and community engagement for Sustainable Development and Peace- Support the design of new initiatives mainstreaming SDGs and establish ‘Community Volunteer Centres’ (CVCs) concept for embedding innovative approaches for SDG acceleration in local contexts - Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and Reporting relevant to projects and initiatives

Significant progress has been made since the adoption of UNSC Resolution (UNSCR) 2250 in 2015. We have UNSCR 2419 and 2535, an independent progress study on youth and peace and security - The Missing Peace (2018) and the UN Secretary General's first global report on YPS (2020). More than 70 agencies are leading and shaping global policy and practices around YPS through the Global Coalition on Youth, Peace & Security (GCYPS). While the global YPS agenda moves from policy to implementation, it is crucial to ensure young people or youth-led organizations are meaningfully part of coalition-building efforts, policy formulation and also monitoring implementation efforts (UNSCR 2535). The committee aims to offer a collaborative space to youth-led peacebuilding organizations in Asia and equip them with the competencies to have an enhanced role in national and regional peace & security decision-making. Hence, the main objectives are to:- Develop strategic priorities for the team’s advocacy work on Youth Peace & Security (YPS) and enhance the team’s understanding to act on these priorities;- Promote meaningful participation in national (elections, youth policies, youth council, national decision making etc), regional (SAARC, ASEAN, TWG-YPS and other networks) and global (Global Coalition on YPS, UN Security Council, UN General Assembly) advocacy for institutionalisation;- Build a culture of ‘prepared intervention’ and ‘sustained advocacy leadership.

The Digital Games For Peace Challenge aims to harness the creative energies of youth from South and Southeast Asia and the promise of game-based innovations in cultivating pertinent competencies for the prevention of violent extremism. The Challenge is being organized by the United Nations Office of Counterterrorism (UNOCT), the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), and the United Nations, Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) through the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP). Under this role, I contributed to the development of digital learning concepts, tools and games that are focused on building alternative learning approaches for sustainable peace within non-formal learning settings, achieving impact for social change through gamification of critical dialogue.

Students for Liberty is the world’s largest pro-liberty network of students and professionals. As the Leadership Management Regional Coordinator for South Asia, I am overlooking the youth leadership and empowerment activities specifically focusing on the liberal rights, human rights, peace, democracy, equality, freedom and other aspects of liberty spread across the region. As the Leadership Management Regional Coordinator for South Asia, I focus mainly on; - Promoting the ideas of liberty and freedom for a more just, peaceful, democratic and sustainable world through grassroots activism, awareness building, policy research and collaboration- Supporting regional/ global efforts with technical expertise, guidance and mentorship in programme design, partnerships, monitoring and evaluation, sustainability and impact generation - Conducting leadership training and capacity building events for regional advocacy network and monitoring their progress

IRI launched its Emerging Leaders Academy (ELA) in 2019 to build the skills and confidence of Sri Lanka’s next generation of democracy advocates. Through its ELA program, IRI convenes youth community leaders, ages 21 to 35, from different sectors across Sri Lanka to enable young leaders to identify citizen concerns and develop issue-based advocacy campaigns and policy proposals. Through intensive workshops and follow-on community projects, IRI connects ELA participants with a nationwide network of like-minded youth and local government officials to advocate their communities’ interests.Following these workshops, participants form project teams to apply their new skills toward designing and implementing projects that will bring about positive change in their communities. In addition, IRI provides select ELA members with the opportunity to participate in an annual internship program to develop soft and technical skills while working in the offices of parliament members or civic groups.
