Been working in beverage industry since 2011. Did sound/electronic engineering prior to that.I got the opportunity to start Agitator with Nordic Whisky Capital. We worked with a feasibility plan in 2013. In 2014 I could quit my job as a team leader in brewing and start working full time with the building of Agitator. First step was to find a location, as well as the equipment. We settled on Arboga, a small town in Sweden. Our equipment is sourced from GEA and Frilli, both excellent manufactures of high quality equipment. Our instrumentation is mainly from Endress & Hauser. The construction started in 2017, and in February 2018 we could finally taste our new make. The difference between Agitator and other distilleries is the use of vacuum. Our 4 stills has a lower pressure inside them, thusly lowering the boiling point of the liquid, as well as energy usage. The whole plant uses hot water as its energy source, since it is available thru central heating networks, provided by the municipality. On the brewing side, nothing has been left for chance. A top of the line brewhouse from GEA and long fermentations (7 days) helps producing the highest quality wash. The quality of the spirit is much purer compared to conventional distilling, and has a softer mouth feel. As far as we know, this is the only large scale pot still whisky distillery in the world using these technologies.
