About Oskari Rautala
Hello! My name is Oskari Rautala and I am a 30ish years old engineer.I graduated from Turku University of Applied Sciences few years ago, where I studied Information Technology, specializing in Game Technology. I have always been interested in the how and why things work like they do, and I love games in all of their different forms, so it was a natural choice for me. And I have not regretted that decision at any point. As for what I’m like, I would like to call myself a dedicated worker. When you give me something that speaks to me, be it an interesting coding challenge or interesting design decision, I will most likely still be thinking about it while in bed later that night. I’ve had those moments for projects that many would call completely insignificant, but for me, solving it is really important, even if no one else cares. Socially, I’ll admit to being a bit shy at first, but when I get to know you, I’ll be more talkative.
Listed skills include C#, Sql, Teamwork, Unity3D, and 20 others.

Programmer
Project Engineer
Working on different Exercise games for Knee rehabilitation patients and for activating old people to exercise. Most of these are done with Kinect, but some with HTC Vive. There are also some smaller projects, like a gamification AR application for tourist destinations as a part of an EU project (Lights On!, now available on Play and Apple stores) or an older project based on learning LEAN principles in a hospital setting. Most of these are not currently published, but I can provide some screenshots or code segments of these if you want. Also, in 2018, I have worked on more projects, like a Swedish teaching mobile app and Pokemon Go like exercising game. Both are still in prototype stage, so I can’t really share that much on them.
Computer Software Engineer
Working on a few game projects that aren't public yet. Mainly a mobile application using VR and another medical data gathering application.
Student Assistant
I worked on three different projects for this job. First one was my thesis work (titled “Using Databases in Games”). Second one was an educational adventure game on mobile platforms for an customer, called Sote Game (which you can check out on this page). Both of them are under NDA, so I can’t tell too much details about them and the source codes are owned by the customers. The Third project that I worked on, was a second version of the AR Fair Game that is mentioned here, that came out for the Book Fair in Turku Fair Centre at the end of September 2016. It was centered around Mikael Agricola and literature, and its name is Agricola-peli.
Internship
I worked as Linux server administrator, and I also worked on an Unity3D Game for Turku Game Lab (The AR Fair Game described in projects). As an administrator I helped with the redesign of the network for The Firma and set up some servers for them, like an Nagios VM to help monitor their servers. My main job was the Fair Game, and the server side jobs came whenever there was a need for it.
Internship
ESC Finland was an place where students could do projects for training themselves and even for some customers. It's now a part of The Firma, which does the same thing.I worked as Linux server administrator. I was tasked with setting up new virtual machines, and setting up different services they could use in the future. This included things like OwnCloud, Gitlab and Puppet servers. After setting them up, I also worked on supporting them and creating more internal documentation about these and other services. I was also part of "PikkuInsinöörit" - project.
Project Assistant
This projects goal was to find an solution for a client who had an website that wasn’t selling product. We searched around for some solutions for their problem, and gave them our recommendation for how to improve their website.
Assistant
I have worked on two main fields at the company, IT and as sound technician. On the IT side I have done a few websites and have been doing maintenance on them since. I have also done basic helpdesk stuff for the company. As a sound technician I have worked in small parties (20-30 people, setting up the equipment and making sure everything works, and if needed, I would stay and keep everything going smooth) to medium sized events (Starkki's stage at Turun Messukeskus during the Construction and Decoration exhibition, Puutori Blues at Puutori in Turku for a couple of years).
Internship
This was my practical training for school, and my job was to code and design a program to count wages and print receipts, as an upgrade to their old system. I also made a webpage for their client and updated the employers current website. In addition, I helped around in the office with a press release and counting costs and donations for a charity event, and other small jobs.
Summer Trainee
This job consisted of assembling, testing and packaging different phones on an assembly line. The work was 3-shift work with weekends, and there was also some assisting with testing side of things.
Civilian Service
My main work consisted of being a receptionist at the main door of the institution, and that included night shifts which would be from 13 - 21. I would answer the phone and answer general questions about the place and guide the phone calls to the right places, and also guide any guests visiting the place to where they wanted. The job also sometimes consisted of assisting with some office duties, making word documents, archiving, etc. And rarely, if needed, I would go and assist with a patient transfers and hospital visits.
