Senior Executive with multidisciplinary management experience in information management, health informatics, high performance computing, industrial automation and computer hardware and software. . In his position (2015-2020) as one of the four members of the Executive Board of SURF, he was responsible for data-, compute-, sustainability and international portfolios of the Cooperative. As CEO of SARA, the Dutch national supercomputing center and one of the three SURF subsidiaries, he managed between 2008 and 2012 to realize double digit growth in turnover and profit for its spin-off Vancis BV (Vancis.nl). Anwar Osseyran was appointed in September 2014 as part-time Professor Business Analytics and Computer Science at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Amsterdam. His research focus is on smart energy and smart health systems making use of High Performance Computing, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence for better simulation and prediction in energy and health domains. Between 2016 and 2018 he was elected as Chair of PRACE, the European Consortium of national supercomputer Centers in Europe and was awarded end of 2017 the “Outstanding Leadership in HPC” price of HPCwire for this role. Anwar Osseyran is co-author of the book “Broadband in a world of Glass” (Academic Service Computing, ISBN 903952449), Sustainable ICT (SDU Publishers, ISBN 9789012582285), Green ICT & Energy (CRC Press, ISBN 9780415620963), The Big Data Revolution (Einstein Books, ISBN 9789082199314) and Industrial Applications of High Performance Computing (CRC Press, ISBN 9781466596801). PRACE aims to facilitate excellent research and science in academia and industry with the most powerful supercomputers, to the advantage of society. The PRACE Council is the highest decision-making body in PRACE. It oversees the HPC Research Infrastructure and sets the policy for access to the resources.Anwar Osseyran has been active for several years already in PRACE and more generally in HPC and the supercomputing community. His most important goal has been to improve the competitiveness of Europe through advanced IT solutions in the race against the United States and East-Asia. One of his most important tasks as Chair will be to guide PRACE into its next phase. This means that a future-proof model has to be designed in which financing of and access to the top-level Research Infrastructure is guaranteed by all participating countries, based on the principle “who computes will need to contribute”. It is expected that France, Germany, Italy and Spain will continue to open their systems to excellent research through this model, as well as that Switzerland will join in the effort and become a Hosting Member as well. -
