I enjoy turning interesting and mad ideas into working computer programs. To complement my strong background in physics and mathematics, I very much enjoy illustrating my own life and assisting in making the ideas of others happen.I love working for a company that provides a professional, pleasant and positive working environment: a company that values the human aspect and that has a vision on corporate social responsibility.

The Toki Ponist On The MountainAwoken Well Aug 2020 - PresentOne weary scientist tamed the power of the well into a singular device. Ready to be shared with the world, in moderation. Contact me if you want to consult the well for app and game development, AI and data science. -
All-Round Developer & DesignerBridge Big May 2011 - Apr 2014Rotterdam Area, NetherlandsAt Bridge Big, we're taking playing the card game bridge online to a new level. As a concept, it is a platform where serious bridge players can earn a living from behind their screens, which is hard to do offline, and impossible to do online without Bridge Big.But at a deeper level, we created an application on the server side using the CQRS principles that is so clean it makes you weep. It effortlessly scales horizontally to handle all the requests we would ever need and auditing and analytics is a breeze as we can go back to any point in history using the event store. Most of my time is spent on developing the client application. The web client is served a state-of-the-art HTML5 responsive page that morphs flawlessly to give every device the best experience possible, with a minimal download and Javascript footprint.Next to all that, I'm also responsible for designing most of the artwork on the website and marketing materials. -
OwnerAwoken Well Dec 2007 - Nov 2013At Awoken Well, we wanted to revolutionize the way presentations are given. We created a product which made it easy to build new presentations from a database of slides. It allowed the presenter to take different paths within a presentation and to have highly interactive content. We sold the product and an example presentation to the Eindhoven University of Technology where it was used successfully to attract new students to study Applied Physics. In addition, I developed an iPhone application "FaceBlender" based on code I had written 10 years earlier.

Guest ResearcherDelft University Of Technology May 2011 - May 2013Delft Area, NetherlandsSupport for FDTD simulations. -
Postdoctoral ResearcherDelft University Of Technology Nov 2010 - Apr 2011Delft Area, NetherlandsI investigated mechanisms to improve organic LED light output. -
Phd StudentDelft University Of Technology Apr 2006 - Nov 2010I spent a good four years writing and using a 3D rigorous electromagnetic solver (FDTD) in C++. I simulated various periodic and isolated, emitting and non-emitting, resonant structures such as (O)LEDs, solar cells, metallic biosensors and lithographic masks. I also found a novel way to optimize the light coupling out of an LED by treating it as if it was a solar cell using the reciprocity principle. While LEDs were my main attention, I spent much of my time helping my colleagues with their passions.I found much pleasure in finding new ways for my simulations to fill CPU and RAM everywhere. My simulations would run in serial batches on desktops with any operating system, in parallel batches across clusters, in parallel on multicore HPC servers and even on my iPhone for demonstration purposes. The most pleasure I found in presenting my results in an animating way (often literally), to capture the essence of the physics involved in moving data, and to travel the world with my laptop and colleagues at every conference opportunity I could grasp. -
Optical Engineer / Software EngineerScience [&] Technology Experts Pool Apr 2012 - Apr 2013Delft Area, NetherlandsAs an expert at S[&]T, I perform simulations, analyze, and report their results for on-going projects.

Guest ResearcherPhilips Research Eindhoven (The Netherlands) 2006 - Jun 2011Eindhoven Area, NetherlandsDuring my PhD I spent a lot of time as a guest in several groups at Philips Research. After obtaining my PhD, I applied the FDTD model that I wrote to even more problems. I delved deeper into the fundamentals of nanoantenna resonances, and described nanowires as both ahighly directional light source and for super-thin efficient solar cells. In this period,I mostly cooperated with the AMOLF FOM group working at Philips Research. All in all, I felt as a most welcome guest there.
