This was followed by a pilot project using the Microsoft Azure platform, where I attempted to address three key technical points of this regulation, namely categorizing, masking and improving the quality of simulated personal data. I… Show more During my internship at the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA), I became interested in time series exhibiting abrupt changes in their distribution, and in estimating the instants at which these series in question admit significant breaks. I formulated the problem of detecting breaks in the mean, which was the main focus of my project, and set the various parameters involved in its definition, such as break instants, the number of segments and their means. I then went on to estimate the parameters of the model admitting breaks in its mean, assuming that it was Gaussian. This enabled me to calculate its likelihood function and to minimize an objective function with respect to the various parameters, thus estimating them. In addition, I introduced the principle of dynamic programming, which is based on the optimal resolution of sub-problems, minimizing the cost of each move of a given index in an optimal number of steps. Finally, I manipulated the rainfall database for the city of Montpellier and calculated the probability of rain on each day of the year. This application was completed by observing an optimal number of segments, for which I estimated the optimal break times and respective averages at each segment.Keywords : Rainfall data, Dynamic programming, Time series study Show less

In addition to heteroskedasticity, the latter exhibits a multimodal conditional distribution with asymmetry and excess Kurtosis. I first studied finite mixture models, and the mixture of normal laws in particular, and then simulated several homoscedastic and heteroscedastic Gaussian mixtures of the same and different proportions, and undertook the estimation of these models using the EM algorithm. I then turned my attention to the GARCH (1, 1) type normal mixture model, which offers some flexibility for capturing volatility at higher order moments of the exchange rate series. I completed my project by fitting the NM (K)-GARCH (1, 1), K = 1, 2 models to the exchange rate series, first stationarizing the series and then estimating the model parameters on the basis of the most appropriate initial parameter vector. The results showed that the overall conditional volatility estimated by these models matched the volatility of our series. Finally, this application was completed by comparing these models using the BIC and Kolmogorov-Smirnov statistics as comparison criteria.• Keywords : Exchange rates, Time series mixture models, EM algorithm Show less
