Anglia Regional Co-Operative

As part of the launch team, my main responsibilities were to help drive the project forward by maintaining the site and liaising with suppliers and colleagues to continuously brainstorm ideas to improve the site, all within budget. www.co-opfurniture.com was created using EPiServer and CommerceManager with EPiServer being the basis of the site and CommerceManager working as the catalogue. Although the initial site was created by an external company in C#, I was fully briefed on the site and my role of maintaining and expanding the site would have been a relatively simple one. I started by redesigning the navigation when within a product area from lists to drop down boxes that were more intuitive to the items selected and also began building a definition library that would explain the more technical terms in the product descriptions when the mouse pointer was moved over them. Unfortunately due to the economic climate I was made redundant from my role before any of this was set live and a marketing person whom I was teaching basic html to was given the task of making the sure that CommerceManager was kept up to date.

It Development Assistant

The Royal Automobile Club

I worked for the club creating and maintaining their intranet, members' website, on-line booking systems, data analysis and databases for seven years. One of my main achievements was to totally revamp the intranet in order to provide managers with more concise internal member information in a faster, more effective, user-friendly way. The intranet is now an invaluable tool used across the whole club. I started from scratch by rewriting the site using Classic ASP to adhere to W3C standards and also add some functionality. Once this was in place I expanded on the intranet by asking people what would help them in their day to day working lives. In order to do this I had to liaise with colleagues to understand their requirements, manage the timetable of development projects, brainstorm ideas, suppliers and report progress. This led to Crystal reports being created on the fly as well as members being provided with PDF files that although one document, they have their own password for so if the document became available to others by accident it would still be protected.Aside from the intranet I also took care of the club's website and assisted in creating packages to integrate the many different systems we use. Recent projects also included an on-line squash court booking system created first using Classic ASP then Visual Basic 6 then VB.Net and a tailor-made events management program to cope with over 200 events ran at the club each year. The Club also has at least 5 separate systems that help it run, all of them need information from the membership system, known as the bible. In order for this to happen, my boss and I had to write and maintain VB6 programs and DTS packages in order to extract and deliver data to each of the processes. Another notable achievement would be the creation of our own commerce management system and payment portal. We were able to do this as the website was for members only and we had access to the member's accounts.

Technical Analyst

Squaremark Computers Ltd

I spent three years at this client-based web development company working on projects for the likes of Cable & Wireless, Eilda Faberge, OCS Group, Icor Broker, Oxfam and Ehrmanns Group. The most notable project would be an e-commerce package for Eilda Faberge's Physio Sport range into a third party portal (unfortunately this site is not operating anymore). I also project managed the Internet Architecture of costofbuild.com (unfortunately not operating anymore) and re-developed the site in a limited time frame to make it function better for the owners and users with the most relevant information. I designed and set-up the SQL database backend and MS Outlook on Win 2000 and presentations of solutions to client for sign-off. I was also involved in setting up local and wide area networks, remote access, Cat 5 design and topology and the graphical design work on clients' websites as well as the support on all of these systems.
