I have been working in the field of renewable energy and hydrogen since my PhD in 1995-1998. My main area of research is on system modelling and analysis of alternative energy systems based on renewable energy and hydrogen and fuel cell technology, including zero emission transport solutions. I have also been responsible for establishing hydrogen research laboratories at IFE in Norway and abroad, and have also been involved in the development of several large renewable hydrogen energy system demonstration projects with industrial partners in Norway. In the period 2008-2012 I was the Director of HySA Systems in South Africa, were I lead the build-up of a national hydrogen research center and laboratory.Since 2017 I have been the Director of FME MoZEES (2017-2024), a Norwegian research center for climate friendly technology (FME) on Mobility Zero Emission Energy Systems for road, rail, and sea. My research on hydrogen continues these days among others in FME HYDROGENi (2023-2030), where I am the Research Area Leader of End-use Technologies for industrial and maritime applications. I am also the Project Leader of REHSYS (2023-2027), a large national research project in Norway on Renewable Energy Hydrogen Systems based on PV, Wind, and Water Electrolysis. My international network includes research partners in Australia, USA, Canada, Japan, Germany, and other EU countries, and I am currently representing Norway in the Executive Committee of the IEA Technology Collaboration Programme on Hydrogen. I have supervised MSc and PhD students and published reports and articles in peer reviewed journals regularly since 1995. I currently supervise graduate students in the area of renewable energy systems, as part of my position as Professor at the University of Oslo.
