Outside my paid consulting work I am the founder and director of the medtech company Cortex Technologies. Cortex are developing bionics sensors and brain computer interface headset electronics and software systems.Cortex are developing high quality wireless brain computer interface (BCI) headsets that measure brain activity of users. Our headsets allow users to play games using their thoughts.Playing games using the Cortex headset improves reaction time, planning ability, short-term and long-term memory. We are developing BCI game software but will initially work with established game systems.Cortex devices use machine learning to customise to their user. Cortex games are based on your mental skills. Cell culture, DNA extraction and sequencing. Tissue HLA typing, supervision of honors students, PhD students and staff members in research techniques and good laboratory practices (GLP). Preparation of patient samples for Mass Spectrometry (MS), Running of patient samples in MS. Analysis and interpretation of MS testing results. Training of honors students, PhD students and staff members in research techniques and GLP. Purification of white blood cells and other blood components from human blood. Coordination of sample and experiment results distribution between our project and our collaborating research groups. Collaboration with IT specialists to improve the use of Motor Unit Number Estimation (MUNE) techniques to assist in MND progression monitoring and efficacy testing of MND therapeutic agents.

Shared appointment (50% Split) between two different research groups.1. Research work on Multiple Sclerosis research involved in exploring the links between Multiple Sclerosis and Epstein Barr Virus (EBV).
