Award winning garden designs that are as practical as they are beautiful

Organised speakers for a series of talks and demos each day of the Southport Flower Show.Also a talk myself on 'How to create successful flower borders' and did 2 Q&A sessions on the bandstand including one with Sir Roddy Llwellyn.

I was an enthusiastic member of Sefton Chamber of Commerce and of its Members Board.

Managed 50 staff in the Plant & Product Creche & Porter Service at RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park.

Worked in many areas including:- recruiting new RHS members- marking out the showground for the marquees, gardens and trade stands, putting up fencing and shovelling bark- managing the flower arranging marquee - think sharpened gladioli at dawn!- managing the 50 strong plant creche and plant porter service.Loved it - lots of great 'can do' people and working in the beautiful deer park on a summer morning was quite magic.

I split my time equally between the show gardens and the Great Floral Pavillion. The show gardens had to be researched prior to interviewing the designers. Then the producers and camera crews had to be briefed on the designers and their gardens before filming the interviews with the designers. During filming I helped the designers with plant names and key features to talk about in their gardens, funny how memories fade in front of a camera. During the editing I checked the pictures matched the plants mentioned and if labelled that the latin names were spelt correctly. For the pavillion I researched the exhibitors and came up with ideas for stories to tell while viewing the stands. So for Chris Beardshaw I had the idea of 'colour combinations' and for Carol Klein 'tough plants for tough places'. Then I arranged different exhibitors to bring demo items and got agreement for us to film at each location. Prior to filming I took the steady camera crew around to rehearse their shots and check on health and safety. Then during filming I recorded all the plant names and checked the presenters used the correct ones yelling 'Cut!' when they didn't. That only happened once, thank goodness. Show less

Organised workshops and lectures for continuing professional development of members of The Society of Garden Designers.e.g. 21st Century Lighting & Designing with Trees.Also organised a visit to The Garden of Cosmic Speculation.
