The team's charter is to maintain and improve the tools and workflows the NOCC uses to increase their performance and repeatability. My personal responsibilities include preparing/maintenance of software for deployment to our production servers, software development as it relates to internal tools developed for our Operations team to increase their productivity and increase safety on the production network.

I started in the NOCC working procedures based on our alerting system for our deployed systems. I have since transitioned to the SRE Team, developing solutions to questions that probably should have been asked a long time ago. Currently the Operations SME for several collections of related servers (We call them networks). My work is mostly done on a linux command line. I also do some work on internal application development using Ruby on Rails and Perl.

Network Administrator for my ship USS Emory S. Land AS39. Over 600 workstations. Windows & Linux servers. Cisco routers. Switches. During my time there I designed and implemented a completely new network.

Consulting engineering with customers to integrate their LAN/WAN with their existing and new links. Some network design work. A lot of smaller Cisco routers/switches, some early Cisco VOIP solutions, CSU/DSU work, Making everything work together was the challenge of the day. Every day.

Taking calls from our customers and working with them over the phone to solve their mostly dialup internet related issues. Eventually moved to installing small networks with dedicated circuits 56k, Fractional T1's. It was nineties. Things were a lot slower back then.
