It would have been a mistake if I ever married her.” Thank God for unanswered prayers Okay, so why am I telling you about Garth Brook's in the "about" section of my Linkedin profile? Honestly ... It's the way I feel about my career. Years ago when I left the Navy, I had dreams of becoming an entertainment mogul. I got my start in Radio and held many roles in my travels from New York to Hollywood.The entertainment spark eventually died out. You can say that we broke up. But out of that emerged my true love — Marketing. It's creative, it's entertaining, it's math, it's psychology, and I can do it for any business. Not just entertainment, not only in Hollywood or New York. I did not know it then when I took that first radio internship, but I was learning the business of media and marketing on the job. The pattern continued as I moved from role to role.My heroes went from Quincy Jones, Rick Rubin, and Clive Davis, to Eugene Schwartz, David Ogilvy, and other brilliant ads men, and women (I'm looking at you Sally Hogshead). Once I caught the Marketing bug, I never stopped. I studied the classics and learned from the modern digital legends, consuming everything from books, to courses, to joining masterminds, to attending conferences. Their lessons propelled my career, eventually enabling my consulting business. In my experience, marketing is the fastest path to the money.
