Permanent Band 7 role supporting NHS England’s specialised commissioning team with accurate information, reporting processes and complex automation using MS SQL Server, Excel, VBA and SSIS to an advanced level to process large and varied NHS datasets.Information lead for 5 acute providers across North Central London, comprising a combined contract value of £550m of the NHS England specialised commissioning budget.Designed, tested and implemented a standardised querying and reporting system for all specialised drugs (approx. £670m annual budget) and specialised devices (approx. £110m annual budget) across 26 providers.Continued to lead on all information aspects of the specialised HIV contracts across London, which made up nearly 10% (£300m) of the overall specialised commissioning budget. Informed commissioners a potential £6m saving by analysing reporting of HIV drug charging by over 20 acute providers.Provided expert knowledge on reconciliation between NHS datasets such as Secondary Uses Service (SUS) and Service Level Agreement Monitoring (SLAM), implementation of the Specialised Services Identification Rules (IR) and misattribution of budgets and activity charging between commissioners, using this knowledge to notify NHS England of £5m of savings.Acted as senior analytical support to NHS England during contracting rounds, advising on contractual information requirements, technical aspects of reporting and informing financial year end positions with providers. This included saving NHS England £1.3m on one contract by identifying inappropriate activity and excess bed day charging by an acute provider.Offered advice and support to junior information analysts within the information team regarding aspects of reporting, querying and data warehouse design.

As of April 2013, Business Intelligence function to support a £3.3bn budget NHS England Specialised Commissioning transferred to NELCSU.Responsible for receiving, analysing and reporting on detailed patient level and aggregated SLAM data from select acute providers across London, with a combined contract total of £320m.Led on information support for the specialised HIV contracts across London, which made up approx. £300m of the specialised commissioning budget. Redesigned and improved VBA macros to drastically decrease monthly validation time of complex HIV data from 1-2 working days to a 2-3 hour period.Constructed and maintained automated claims and reporting processes using SQL, VBA and SSIS – specifically stored procedures, views, user defined functions, VB scripts and packages to validate, cleanse and standardise large datasets across 25 acute providers. This enabled much faster, more effective and more powerful querying of data across specialised commissioning data in London.Responsible for meeting with acute providers to explain complex data issues, information requirements and contractual arrangements to a wide audience ranging from technical staff to senior directors.Supported NHS England through contracting rounds, advising on the information elements of contract offers, the information requirements of contracts and forecasting year end positions.Trained and advised staff on the use of SQL Server, MS Excel, VBA and other computer programs.

An interim role working within the Finance & information team at LSCG, which commissioned a range of specialised health services across London with an annual contract value of approx. £800m.Supported the collection, reporting and analysis of data for high cost specialised services such as HIV, Paediatric Intensive Care, Immunology and Cystic Fibrosis with an annual contracted value of £350m.Ran routine and ad-hoc analysis on NHS datasets including SUS, SLAM, SOPHID and bespoke reports covering treatment programmes, patient details and specific drug usage across London.Worked to multiple deadlines to report on monthly service data in a timely fashion, to inform organisational monthly finance reports.Worked on the improvement and maintenance of existing automated process for reporting on monthly data, including creating and improving VBA macros to automate validation processes and reduce time spent on repetitive tasks by the wider information team.

The role provided an information function to 3 Service Redesign Managers, as well as advice and support to the wider Service & Professional Development division.Continued to oversee the design, collection and analysis of data to inform both audits and service redesign projects, with the aim to make efficiency savings in NHS Manchester and suggest ways for staff to work in a more streamlined manner.Led on service redesign projects to improve efficiency for services such as School Nursing, Continence and Audiology, with the outcome of recommending clinical and admin staff make more effective use of time and designing more efficient electronic alternatives to existing processes in place.Provided expertise on potential software purchases including content management systems and voice recognition software, advising to purchase voice recognition software within a community setting to ensure excess time spent by admin staff on typing work could be focused elsewhere.From January 2010 onwards, the role began to provide programme office support to Transforming Community Services, a programme consisting of 18 projects that oversaw massive reform in NHS Manchester. The programme role involved co-ordinating highlight reports from 4 different organisations, overseeing the detailed programme plan in MS Project and also involvement in the staff communication aspect of the restructure.Designed and produced a bespoke database during early 2009 to securely store professional registration details of staff and automate the process of renewing professional registration, a database that was still in use within the team in 2012.Provided training, database design, data analysis advice and other IT expertise to staff within the organisation, ranging from admin staff to senior managers and clinical staff.
