I lead a talented team of c25 data annal and team leaders. I have a track record of delivering complex projects and services by organising and bringing out the best in others. What kind of person am I?I balance being energetic and delivery-focussed with being a nice leader. I develop talent around me, going out of my way to develop those most in need of support. I build and maintain an inclusive social fabric through my teams. I have learned from experience that this is essential and is an increasingly important tool in growing resilience. Generally, people want to work with me or for me, which I take as a good sign.What do I do?My delivery record includes generating a complex, multi-scale evidence base that government use to target £5b (yes, billion) worth of environmental improvements every six years, systems that provide real time warnings and information for swimmers and beach goers, daily COVID wastewater data supply to the UKHSA, design of national environmental monitoring programmes and a range of data products and analysis to show levels of compliance with environmental legislation. I have occasionally briefed CEOs and Secretaries of State directly due to my clear communication style and poltical radar. The team use FME, R, AGOL and have a high degree of data literacy.My wider leadership capabilities and my passion for helping in a crisis have led me to represent the EA at SAGE in the nationwide floods of winter 2013/14, at Wiltshire Local Resilience Forum (including SCG for an internationally significant issue in March 2018) and led the EA’s technical preparations for a No Deal situation in 2019. Because I am approachable, technically savvy, articulate and emotionally intelligent I have held two corporate leadership roles where I was accountable for the direction setting of sizeable EA functions: Head of Modelling, which was a ‘head of profession’ role, then Head of Monitoring which was a role accountable for the commissioning and use of c£30m of annual environmental data collection.
