As an assistant superintendent with Petros Homes I gained valuable exposure within the fields of residential construction, real estate acquisition, and the land development process. Some of the responsibilities assumed by this role were assisting in the stages to attaining building permits, scheduling numerous stages of inspections, ensuring various trades workers knew which site to be at and at what date they were expected to have their respective work completed by.While at Petros Homes I gained insight to both community development style housing, along with completely custom offsite home builds. The role I played balanced in field experience with behind the scene office scheduling and follow-ups which ensured for a balanced, well versed work experience. I gained crucial knowledge of time management, budgeting, scheduling, clear and thorough communication, as well as team building. The process of completing a home to your customers desires and expectations is not an easy task but thanks to my experience at Petros Homes I am far more confident in my abilities to advance throughout my career there after.

Responsibilities included yet were not limited to the following: proctoring a classroom of 40+ adolescents ranging in ages from 6-16 years old conducting homework help, English language lessons, and serving as a positive role model for those who may lack general care or attention in their realities. During the hours not at work as a volunteer we were expected and honored to visit the homes of marginalized, elderly, or sick individuals in the Monte Sinai neighborhood on the outside of Port City, Guayaquil. We are also expected to set itineraries and lead visiting University and high school retreat groups from the United States to our worksites, neighbors homes, pastoral visits, and other cross cultural experiences. Providing basic/accelerated translating Spanish to English and Vice - Versa is also expected of a Rostro De Cristo volunteer. This experience has helped me develop and foster many skills, some of which are as follows: communication in multiple languages, adaptability, team work, leadership, patience, and empathy. The emphasis in the Rostro de Cristo program is always on being with the people and not necessarily doing for them. The focus is on forming lasting relationships, focusing on joy amidst adherent pain and struggle, which serve as the most powerful and profound means of expressing God’s love to one another.

I was put in charge of different tasks such as unpacking a tractor trailer load of newly arrived furniture. I would have to be sure that nothing would happen in the process to harm the customers furniture as well as keeping track of all of the individual pieces skew numbers to log down the items.
