Through close collaboration with machine learning experts, it was my role to tell the story of Speechmatics (a fast-paced tech start-up taking on the big players of Amazon, Google and Microsoft in the world of AI and Speech Recognition). As well as helping to create the brand direction and tone of voice, I was tasked with translating incredibly technical thinking into easy-to-understand copy. Using limited creative briefs, I fleshed out entire white papers and annual reports, making engaging content that aligned with the business objectives.

In 2018, I was incredibly fortunate to be offered two-book deals with a number of high-profile publishing houses in the UK, US, Canada, Italy, and Sweden. Repped by the prestigious Madeleine Milburn Literary Agency, my debut novel LOVE, UNSCRIPTED was released in the autumn of 2019. My second novel, PERFECT TIMING was released in 2021. I am currently working on my third and fourth.

In 2021, I was invited to mentor two writers selected for the Escalator Writer Development Programme. My role was to engage in one-to-one sessions with each writer to provide feedback and support on their work and understanding of the industry. Alongside this, I assisted NCW with evaluation of the project by providing regular reports detailing the progress of the mentoring relationship and the mentees’ projects.

My role was to provide on-brand copy for a wide range of advertising, marketing, customer service, regulatory and internal communications for the business. I created compelling headline driven copy for ‘above the line’ activities such as press ads, posters, digital advertising and Direct Mail. Working alongside the design team, we created informative web pages, brochures and a wide range of customer service communications.

Purecontent Media Limited is a leading supplier of web content, written articles, news feeds, video content, translation and content based links to commercial websites and blogs.

After returning from Toronto I immediately found employment at Diagonal View, a London-based online video production company. Under the title Entertainment News Producer my role is to write, source and edit a daily news product for Europe-wide distribution. With client platforms such as YouTube, MSN and Yahoo!, Diagonal View’s videos have been watched over 2 billion times worldwide.

Since 2008 I have overseen the Film and TV content for NME.com on a freelance basis. My duties include, but are not restricted to, film reviews, articles, news and updating social media connected with the site. I have also written for NME's print publication on a number of occasions, most recently on David Bowie's cinematic work on a one-shot due in shops April 2013.

During my time as a freelance writer I have worked for a number of companies including United Way Toronto, North America’s largest charity. Writing to strict briefs and strict deadlines, I was asked to interview organisers of projects funded by United Way as well as the participants of said projects. This role took me out of my comfort zone of entertainment writing and presented me with a unique challenge. It was one that I found incredibly rewarding both personally and professionally.

I worked as assistant editor on the 500 Five-Star Movies Special Edition of EMPIRE, the world’s biggest movie magazine. This role involved assembling information and analysis on the 500, generating ideas, extensive editing of copy and writing key features. The opportunity required me to use my organisational skills and my creative abilities.I have also contributed reviews and articles to Total Film magazine.

Whilst living in Toronto I provided script coverage to one of Canada’s leading above and below the line talent agencies. Working with the primary agents and the CEO of Vanguarde assisted my progress as a professional script reader and gave me valuable behind-the-scenes experience at the earliest stages of pre-production. This position required me to give succinct, well structured and insightful feedback on a wide variety of projects.

For six and a half years I worked as a projectionist at my local multiplex cinema. The role required a great deal of organisational skill and multi-tasking. At times the position would be stressful but it was in these moments that I felt I rose to the challenges, taking the initiative to problem solve and find the best solution for everyone. The role required me to give training and guidance to the new members of the team. I also helped oversee the switch-over from film to digital projection. I was also privileged to work as a projectionist at Glastonbury Festival. "Whatever you end up doing, love it. The way you loved the projection booth when you were a little squirt."
