Well, with Metal-Additive Manufacturing beginning to be used for implant devices (hips, knees, etc) along with 3D Printing being used for models of hearts before surgury (see: http://www.pjstar.com/news/20161112/osf-and-caterpillar-collaborate-on-3d-hearts ) I assume that insurance providers have a curiosity in this technology (benefit/cost). Honestly this is the first time I really thought about that. After reading and thinking about the OSF/Caterpillar story, and all their employees, UAW members and retirees with really good healthcare, I raised the topic with 3DHEALS that perhaps Insurance providers should be included in the learning curve. Let me know your thoughts on the subject and we can continue the conversation.

Hart-Clayton, Inc - Springfield Illinois USA builds shipping crates and skids for Caterpillar and other local companies. I supervised an area that mostly built product for Aurora CAT. I was responsible for filling orders from the plant manager which involved bringing in cut lumber with a fork truck, setting up the project, training employees how to build the products, building them myself, inspecting and taking finished product out to the yard. (( Yes, I now know how to design/build my own or someone that does!!! ))

I did design of large steel tube structures to mount USL product to designed outdoor stadium structures and also small brackets to mount USL lights to indoor arena catwalks. I created the weld drawings of USL "standard" cross arms and service basket structures. All of this was done using SolidWorks2008/2009. Also I would create either SolidWorks images or PhotoWorks renderings of USL products for sales and marketing purposes. In addition I learned to use AutoLUX to aim the lights onto the fields/courts to reach required footcandles or luminaries.(( I was the one to bring SolidWorks to USL and the facility is now "For Sale" on the edge of Atlanta, ILLINOIS USA ))

When I was hired the company was named NuAir then sold to SC2. Used SolidWorks to recreate Caterpillar, Deere, Iron-A-Way and other's parts to layout in MetalSoft for manufacturing on laser cutting and punching/shearing machines. Also to assist the designer of dunnage racks for a local automotive manufacturer and a heavy equipment manufacturer.(( I was the one to bring SolidWorks into NuAir ))

Worked for various contract engineering firms over almost 20 years in and around Caterpillar in various divisions. With BCP and MCE I did most of my design using Pro/E Cabling to layout the wiring harness routing (also used it for hydrualic hose routing) on the chassis of the machines. Did routings on the 914G hyd pilot lines, 928G, 924G, and 773D chassis/powertrain wiring harnesses. I also was trained to a Green Belt level in Six Sigma.My Caterpillar history...I do have experience with Caterpillar's mylar prints, "old" CAPT software up to Pro/E Wildfire. Also from paper engineering change notice writing, to entering data directly into EDS, up to uploading EDS information directly from Pro/E BOMs. I did detailing for many years (10+) within Caterpillar TC-F in Mossville, IL on down to BCP in Clayton, NC.Used Pro/Cabling to route hydraulic lines (tubes/hoses) for the 914G SWL pilot lines during NPI design phase. The hose/tube drawings were created in the CAPT system. Was involved in the prototype/pilot builds where I gained hands on experience building/assembling hoses/tubes to the machine.Routed wiring harnesses using Pro/Cabling on the entire chassis of the 928G/IT28G SWL and the entire chassis, powertrain, and NACD/COSA roading lights of the 924G/IT24G during those NPIs. Harness assembly drawings were still done in CAPT (a few were "tested" in Pro/Cabling) while the piece part and group drawings were completed in Pro/E. EDS info was either typed directly into EDS or uploaded from Pro/E BOMs. Assembled/Reworked & Fitted up harnesses/cables to the machines. In the 924G NPI visited Leichester England to assist the prototype/pilot builds.
