Supports individuals with Down syndrome (DS), family members and the community on the educational needs related to raising a child with DS throughout all stages of life. This includes developing innovative education programs and services that support and educate families and the community. Program development involves analysis of strategic plan priorities, securing community partnerships, applying for grants, assessing program metrics, marketing and managing social media. Launched hundreds of educational programs from early learning, school and transition age and adulthood. Provided individual advocacy IEP support for countless families throughout VA. Created, launched and led the following notable projects: - Learning Program, an academic series for children and parents, that serves as a platform for sharing literacy and math instructional strategies, resources, and activities to improve academic outcomes for students with DS. Equipping families with the knowledge and tools to work effectively at home and at school for 10 years. - Summer Employment Academy provides high school students with DS summer job internships along with in-class employment and communication skills training. This 4-week employment program works with local businesses and job coaches to give students an individual job experience. - Disability Education and Transition Conference has become a signature event in the community since 2013, serving over 400 education professionals and parents each year to strengthen inclusive education for students with disabilities. - Nothing Down About It provides education professionals training on teaching strategies for students with DS. This on-demand training program, along with other ongoing education seminars keeps the community informed about DS. - Transition Boot Camp, a series for teens and parents, gives parents and teens the tools they need for middle and high school transition. Teens participate in I’m Determined activities to improve self-advocacy.

Provides support for solar projects and renewable energy planning

Owens Engineering assists clients in building renewable energy and energy efficiency opportunities through resource assessments, proposal development, request for proposals, designing utility renewable energy programs, siting studies and technology assessments. Owens Engineering is registered as a small, woman-owned business and fully insured as a professional engineering business.

Responsible for managing the renewable energy program at JEA, including: • Development of renewable energy projects - issued request for renewable energy proposals, negotiated power purchase agreements and crafted interconnection procedures• Participated in federal and state legislative efforts to support renewable energy including testimony at the state level.• Investigated new renewable technologies such as offshore wind, tidal, and biomass energy crops. • Initiated the Florida Municipal Energy Efficiency Committee, allowing Florida municipal utilities to collaborate on energy conservation programs.• Managed the solar rebate program, including net metering and interconnection policies.• Engaged community environmental groups through quarterly stakeholder meetings

Environmental compliance manager for all activities under the Base Operating Services Contract which included operating the Base hazardous waste, storage tank, and spill response programs; managing the industrial wastewater laboratory and industrial wastewater treatment plant; and ensuring permit compliance for the water laboratories, Base water plant, wastewater plants, thermal plant, and the emergency power generation facilities.
