I am a dedicated horticulturist with extreme passion for the production and sustainability of specialty crops. As an undergraduate student of Crop Science, I studied the effects of different growth media on the growth and leaf yield of Lettuce (Lactuca sativa) in the high tunnel. The growth media included coconut fiber, rice husk, saw dust and soil. From the research, I observed that for sustainable intensification of crop production, rice husk and coconut fiber are excellent soilless growth media. At the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), where I bagged a Distinction in General Horticulture, I observed the adaptation pattern of four green pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) genotypes as influenced by organic and in-organic fertilizers under high-tunnel and field condition. The research was concluded with a residual soil check of planting Green amaranth and Radish which established the fact that the soil remain fertile for another planting season as these vegetables were sustained and gave maximum economic yield. My prowess in some statistical packages (GENSTAT and SPSS) made the data analysis quite easy.My Industrial training at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), under the tutelage of Dr. Stefan Hauser also gave me a better understanding of field protocols and evaluation, plant scoring, maximizing Agricultural by-product such as carbonized rice husk as growth media (sustainability). My current internship at Shodex Beautification Gardens has availed me the opportunity of joining two senior Horticulturists. I have taken on the responsibility of propagating some flowers (Murraya paniculata, Dypsis lutescence, Hibiscus) that are near extinction in the garden and joined in the environmental landscape of different gardens.
