I am a faculty member in the Department of Musicology at Istanbul Technical University. My academic pursuits span a broad spectrum, encompassing areas such as music history, historical music theory, music analysis, and music cognition. Through my research, I seek to investigate the relationships between music and its intellectual, social, and aesthetic contexts. Notably, I have published several manuscripts investigating Ancient Greek and Roman sources on music theory and their possible influences on makam theory, while also developing several analytical models for makam music, including the Cyclical Analysis Model, Time-Makam Analysis Model and the Makam Transformation Model. I am also a co-founder of MakamNetz, a pioneering virtual platform aimed at mapping the intricate Perde/Çeşni relations within the realm of makam music.In addition to my research, I am deeply committed to my role as an educator, where I enjoy imparting knowledge to my students while also learning much from them. I offer a diverse array of courses, all of which are rooted in my profound appreciation and interest in the music under study. Furthermore, alongside my main position at Istanbul Technical University, I have been serving as an adjunct lecturer at Koç University since 2008, delivering courses covering various aspects of music.Beyond my academic pursuits, I am engaged in creative endeavors across multiple mediums, including contributions to sound installations, albums, Radio/TV productions, animation/short films, and dance theater performances. Noteworthy among these are the "Rock Sınıfı" album published by Taxim-Universal in 2008, musical composition for the award-winning short animation film "A Cup of Turkish Coffee" in 2014, directed by Nazlı Eda Noyan and Dağhan Celayir, and my recent collaboration in providing music for the dance theater production “Angelus” in 2023, choreographed and directed by Bedirhan Dehmen.
