I am a researcher in the field of Scientific Computing with experience in the modeling and numerical simulation of the cardiovascular system, in the translation of simulation technology to the clinic, and in developing modeling techniques based on multiscale paradigms. My research is concentrated on the development of mathematical models based on variational foundations, as well as the development and implementation of numerical methods to simulate blood flow phenomena, fluid-structure interaction, wave propagation phenomena, and material behavior. At my institution (LNCC, www.lncc.br) I head the HeMoLab R&D group (http://hemolab.lncc.br/), and I am currently co-PI of the National Institute of Science and Technology in Medicine Assisted by Scientific Computing (INCT-MACC, https://macc.lncc.br). At HeMoLab we have developed the largest anatomical model of the cardiovascular system (ADAN, http://hemolab.lncc.br/adan-web/) to subserve the research of blood flow phenomena using dimensionally-reduced mathematical models. We have also developed the foundations for the formulation of RVE-based multiscale formulations to bridge different spatial scales.I co-founded FLOUIT, a company dedicated to the development of mathematical modeling and machine learning solutions for our clients in the medical field, with an emphasis on the processing of medical images, clinical data, and the integration with physiological models.Also, I co-founded PAC Dynamic, as an attempt to translate to the clinic the state-of-the-art in machine learning and physiological modeling tools to address the diagnosis and prognosis of heart failure patients.
