Throughout my professional career I have been interested in exploring ways in which information and communication technologies can contribute to more equitable and sustainable societies.As a data scientist specializing in text-mining technologies at Siris Academic, I work on the extraction and analysis of information from academic data, including unstructured sources such as scientific papers and research proposals. Our ultimate goal is that insights gained from data can contribute to improve decision-making processes in the higher education, philantropic, and research sectors. Previously, my work at MedBioinformatics/UPF focused on the development and deployment of predictive models for the identification of biomedical entities and relations in scientific publications. I also contributed to European research projects aimed to facilitate sharing of data and resources among life-science researchers. From 2016 to 2021 I worked in the area of scientific text-mining and its applications to scientometrics and visualization of scientific outcomes at the Large-scale Text Understanding Systems Lab (NLP Group) at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona), in the context of my PhD research.For almost four years I was involved in the development of the Open Knowledge Hub (OKH) at the Institute of Development Studies (University of Sussex). The OKH was a UK-funded initiative aimed at facilitating automatic sharing of content curated by an international network of organizations working on development issues.Before that, I worked as research manager in the area of ICT policies at the Association for Progressive Communications (APC), an international network of nearly 50 organizations distributed worldwide, where I coordinated several projects aimed at producing and disseminating research evidence to inform the development of ICT policies.In the multiple projects in which I have participated, I had the fortune to collaborate with colleagues with diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.I find myself very comfortable working both autonomously and in close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, where each one contributes with their background and expertise in the achievement of common goals.
