Once information is reviewed and deemed accurate, if employee's absences are beyond the threshold allowed by the policy, schedule interview with employee to be placed in absenteeism monitoring program for a period of time reflective of the employee's attendance record and prior program participation. Interview employees to determine reasons for absences, refer to resources if warranted including medical for fit for duty evaluation, Employee Assistance Program and/or FMLA. In person and on the phone interviews with employees may involve Union representatives/Shop Stewards. Once in the monitoring program, issue further disciplinary action as needed based on additional absences. Work with Labor, HR and other departments involved to make sure actions taken are in accordance with governing laws and the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Conduct conference calls with attorneys and upper management to discuss complex cases which are headed toward possible termination. Attend Arbitration hearings on behalf of the Authority and testify. I was involved with early training and adaptation for myself then provided training to all management, system/company wide, on the new policy, implementation, enforcement, etc. Assisted in developing forms to use with new policy and providing feedback and opinion for language and processes contained therein. I was also the back-up person for the transitional duty program which places employees on light duty due to on the job injuries or other qualifying injuries that are non-work related. This entails finding suitable positions within the authority, coordinating placement and monitoring for 90 days. Both positions are hands on and there are demands on having a flexible schedule as the Authority is a 24/7 operation.
