  I spent 14 months in the Mediaroom team as an SDE working on a product for the Xbox 360 platform, from the early stages of writing specs right through to shipping. I gained valuable experience working in a multi-disciplined team, as well as with other teams in the organization that spanned multiple time zones. Initially I created and modified tools that helped the team on a daily basis, such as an extension to Fiddler (a web debugging application) to inject a required token into requests to our servers. As well as this I did some early prototype work of how the existing product could be reimagined to fit in with the new Xbox Dashboard style and how Kinect could integrate into the product.Most of the year was spent working on the next version of the Mediaroom products, using ASP.Net MVC with C# to create content that would be displayed on the Xbox. I also worked on another part of the project that was being developed in the US which meant a lot of communication and collaboration with the remote teams. Throughout this time I had to write unit tests for the code I produced, participated in Code Reviews, both creating and reviewing other’s code and helped keep documents up-to-date. This year really helped improve upon my existing technical skills, to learn proper coding practices and modern software development techniques, as well as pick up new technologies.During my time at Microsoft I also got involved with an Intern Project in conjunction with the Travel Team, that involved developing a Silverlight application and Azure based web service with five other interns. The goal was to ease the lives of Microsoft employees who are travelling on business, to provide a means of sharing data on common travel locations, including details regarding hotels, restaurants, airports, and other such facilities as well as the links between these locations.
