    Operations Database Lead
Kapsch Trafficcom North America Apr 2020 - Jan 2023
    Duluth, Georgia, Us
Kapsch TrafficCom is a provider of intelligent transportation systems in the fields of tolling, traffic management, smart urban mobility, traffic safety and security, and connected vehicles. As a one-stop solutions provider, Kapsch TrafficCom offers end-to-end solutions covering the entire range of transportation control systems for its clients, from components and design to the implementation and operation of systems. The mobility solutions supplied by Kapsch TrafficCom help make road traffic safer and more reliable, efficient, and comfortable in urban areas, on highways, and everything in between. My position at Kapsch is within the DevOps function as a Database Lead, currently supporting primarily Tolling System design, development, and support of large and complex client systems such as the Maryland Transportation Authority's tolling and back office interfaces.I work primarily with Oracle Databases and UNIX system development and support and scripting applications in support of Transportation and Tolling Systems, primarily on the database, system interface (roadside data collection, toll calculation, and data delivery to external billing systems), and other backend systems. This includes system failsafe components, trip definition, error detection. and other system component support in high-transaction, high-availability, constant-operation systems. The DevOps functionality means that if it breaks, we need to jump on the issue, at whatever time or day, to get the problem fixed and the system back into operation without any revenue loss.My other roles in my career have prepped me to get to this point, but I still learn something every day. DevOps requires the ability to calmly execute in pressure situations while using creativity and experience to get the fix in quickly and reliably. Sometimes this creates high stress levels, but it also creates continuous reward and gratification.
