I conducted one years full time study at the New Zealand Defence College, and Victoria University of Wellington, to gain my Masters in Strategic Studies, as well as develop my Senior Leadership Skills.

I have recently completed my 2 year posting as 2nd in Command of the Frigate TE MANA with a wide range of responsibilities ranging from crew welfare and morale, to programming and execution of activities, and tactical level command in combat situations. This has all been achieved whilst the ship, and her crew have been deployed to Canada, in the midst of the COVID pandemic.

After successful completion of my roles in the operations field, I returned to my specialist fields as a subject matter expert to Senior Command, in roles such as the Staff Officer for Under Water Warfare, Navigation Course Instructor, Liaison Officer to a US Coastguard icebreaker in Antarctica, and finally as the Fleet Navigation Officer. These roles all demanded me to be accountable directly to Senior Command for the various specialisations, as well as build and manage networks, systems and capabilities.

Upon completion of specialist, leadership, warfare and management training, I assumed a number of roles responsible for the safe planning, management and execution of operations both onboard warships, and in operational headquarters. During this time, I served mostly on NZ and Australian Frigates deployed around the Asia-Pacific region, and as the Maritime Staff Officer for Current Operations to the Chief Maritime Operations Officer of the NZDF.

During this time, I learnt my tradecraft as a specialist shipdriver and navigator, as well as developed broad leadership and management skills. I served in various roles such as a Warfare, Boarding, Navigation and Commanding Officer, onboard ships ranging from a 30m Patrol Craft to a 120m Royal Navy Destroyer, in areas including the Pacific, Asia, Middle East, and Atlantic.

It was my privilege to Command the Patrol Vessel HAWEA. This involved direct accountability to Senior Command for the safe and efficient leadership and management of her crew and her mission.
